Welcome to the StimulusWatch.ca Wiki
The wiki is a place for problem-solving as relates to key aspects of Budget 2009 and related necessities of government in Canada. We invite you to use this space to find others who share your interests, write something collaboratively or propose a project of your own.
Please note that in keeping with the spirit of this initiative, this wiki is NON PARTISAN. Please keep political advocacy for one position or another on your own sites. This site is data and information focused, because we feel factual reporting and data will tell the story of the stimulus best.
The federal government has put together a 2 year stimulus package to help boost the Canadian economy. About $18 billion is allocated for the first year starting April 1, 2009.
The package contains tax cuts, as well as spending programs. Some of the spending programs are intended to get money into the hands of Canadians so they can build community infrastructure and housing. Others are designed to help individual Canadians directly (EI and training programs, for example.) Still others are meant to increase research or help specific industries.
The government says it wants the stimulus to be both targeted and timely. How will they, and we, know if the programs are working? Normal monitoring methods are usually very slow and may not give the government enough information to adjust the programs as needed before the 2 years runs out. They need your help.
